| Choke Mod |
Cost: $0
Difficulty: 3 of 5
Tools Required: 8mm socket wrench,
Needle-nose pliers, Phillips head screwdriver.
Is Mod Reversible?: Yes |

. |
The stock carburetor's intake
comes with a design flaw; even with the choke fully retracted,
the butterfly valve and stem sit in the middle of the intake
path. This blockage restricts the carburetor from achieving
its true airflow potential. |
. |
|
|
This guide will show you how to modify
the stock carburetor to achieve it’s maximum potential!
Always remember, while working with your engine’s
intake, to keep the parts as clean as possible. Foreign
debris and dirt that fall in and left behind can clog up
fuel and airflow, causing you many headaches. |
|
|
|
You should note that removal of the choke
may make it more difficult for you to initially start your
engine during cold weather. This mod is intended for riders
who want to keep their bike stock and are looking to squeeze
out every last bit of power out of it. |

|
Step: 1
Turn the fuel valve to the “Off” position.
Then remove the air box / air filter (one screw) as well
as pull off the fuel supply line.
Now remove the entire carburetor from your
50 by unscrewing the two 8mm bolts which attach it to
the engine head.
The picture to the right is what you should
have on your work bench.

Step: 2
With the carb sitting on your workbench,
fully engage the choke lever. You will notice the butterfly
valve pivot downward (as shown) exposing the single screw.
Remove the screw.
